How to Cleanse Body and Spirit with a Daily Cleanse Supplement
We all know the feeling of getting swept up in the constant movement of summer energy, and having to put off our daily self-care rituals. After getting back from vacation or the holidays, our bodies—and specifically our digestive systems—pay the price of consuming too much tasty food and drink. We feel off track, and often make promises or New Year’s Resolutions to eat healthier, lose weight, and achieve an overall cleansed state of being. In this blog we will discuss simple ways to cleanse the body and spirit with regular practices and Mushroom Revival’s daily cleanse supplement: Myco-Cleanse tincture!
Tips for Cleansing Body, Mind and Spirit
A nice way to start or end the day is with a smoke clearing — something that can be done in a matter of seconds. Take a thoughtfully harvested herb like cedar or sage, light it and make sweeping motions around the limbs and the body. Use this practice to greet or close each day to cleanse and protect your spirit.
Use a Neti Pot
With poor air quality and airborne pathogens plaguing our world, it is important to clean the passage through which air travels into our bodies: the nose! Neti Kriya, or using a Neti Pot, is a nasal irrigation technique with yogic origins for purification. This technique removes dirt and bacteria filled mucous. Using warm distilled water and non-iodized salt, pour the solution into one nostril, tilting your head forward and to the side, letting it drip out from the opposite nostril. Once finished, give a blow through each nostril to get out any excess.
Try Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is an ayurvedic technique to pull toxins out of the mouth. Typically, a tablespoon of oil (coconut is common) is swished around the mouth for 20 minutes, whitening teeth and removing bacteria in the mouth, improving oral and overall health.
Practice Nadi Shodhana
Also known as “alternate nostril breathing,” this yogic technique is used to balance hormones, rejuvenate the nervous and respiratory systems, and purify and release toxins. Nadi Shodhana is typically practiced in the morning on an empty stomach for greatest benefits. Using your right thumb to close the right nostril, take a full breath, then use your right ring finger to close the left nostril and take another full breath. Continue alternating breathing through right and left nostrils.
Tips to Improve Digestion and Cleanse the Gut
Quit the Late Night Eating
When we eat late at night, we don’t give our bodies time to process and break down the nutrients. Our liver is working overtime to sort through the toxins when it should be resting while we sleep. This can cause sleep disturbances, weight gain and overall digestive upset.
Test Food Intolerances
Bloating can be a sign of inflammation from foods that our body has an allergic reaction to or isn’t able to process. Try eliminating certain foods or keeping a food diary to see how your digestion changes based on what you consume. You might be surprised by what is causing digestive discomfort. Although eliminating some of our favorite foods, like wheat-based products, may not sound completely enticing, the benefits might outweigh the negatives!
Our culture has become centered around fast food, quick service and eating as you go. It is important to take time to make the food, smell the food, and get the salivary glands going to start the digestive process. Enjoying a meal that is organic, local and/or home cooked, is not only beneficial for the body, but also for the soul. Slow down and have gratitude for what you are consuming. Include leafy greens, fermented foods and fiber, and reduce processed foods and sugar.
When our bodies feel stress, our digestion suffers. Maybe you clench up and can’t go, or the opposite and you can’t seem to stop the flow. Take the time to support yourself with mental health days, stress relieving baths or herbal adaptogens such as Schisandra berry (Schizandra chinensis). Schisandra is known for enhancing the body’s resistance and adaptation to stressors, stimulation of gastric secretion, and liver detoxifying support.
