William Goss is a mycophile residing in California. He has extensive experience in the plant and mushroom world and worked for one of the largest gourmet mushroom producers in the country. He served as the production team leader at Mycoworks and is now committing his time to supporting Decriminalize California. He also just got a job as the chief technology officer for myco-systemics, leaders in mushroom cultivation technology and infrastructure.

Ryan Munevar co-founded Monterey County NORML(National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) in 2013 to begin turning on the county and local cities with open source draft initiatives. Later, in 2015, he co-founded CannabisPermits.com began winning local permits across the state.Ryan set up Decriminalize California to make sure that psychedelic mushroom lovers wouldn’t need to go through the same nightmare the cannabis industry is going through right now with permitting, hyper overregulation, and sin taxing at every step of the way.

His new movie is called Fantastic Fungi: The magic beneath us.

From a grassroots approach to the industry as a whole, we are joined by the lovely Leila Darwish who has pioneered grassroots methodologies of bioremediation.

Leila Darwish is a community organizer, author, permaculture designer, educator, urban gardener, and grassroots herbalist with a deep commitment to environmental justice, decolonization, food sovereignty, and to providing accessible and transformative tools for communities dealing with toxic contamination of their land and drinking water.

Over the last decade, she has worked as a community organizer for different environmental organizations and community groups on campaigns such as tar sands, fracking, nuclear energy, coal, climate justice, water protection, and more. 

She has taught grassroots bioremediation for a diversity of groups and communities in Canada and the USA and published her first book in 2013 titles “Earth Repair: A Grassroots Guide to Healing Toxic and Damaged Landscapes”.

Welcome Dr. Ian Hall, a mycorrhizal fungi expert who has revolutionized truffle cultivation worldwide. In this episode we will review symbiotic fungi as a whole and discuss the past, present, and future of the truffle mushroom industry. 

Dr. Ian Hall is a mycorrhizal fungi expert. He introduced truffle cultivation to the Southern Hemisphere and established the basis of a truffle industry in New Zealand. Ian founded Truffles & Mushrooms Consulting Ltd, which now advises internationally on methods for the cultivation of truffles and other ectomycorrhizal mushrooms. His work also focuses on the beneficial effects of mycorrhizas in forestry, horticulture, and agriculture.

Ecology of Psilocybin with Matthew Meyer

Today we are pleased to welcome Mathew Meyer, one of the few researchers to study psilocybin’s role in ecology. We discuss his research paper « Why did the Mushroom Become Magic? » as well as many other publications that shed light on this compelling topic.

Matthew Meyer is a budding research mycologist and currently works as a Microscopy Specialist at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology. In his spare time, he conducts citizen-science fungal research and he serves as the Membership Director for the San Diego Mycological Society. Matthew obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA in 2017 and is currently applying to mycology PhD programs around the world. He hopes to study fungal chemical ecology with an emphasis on fungal-invertebrate interactions.

Dr. Barry McCleary received his PhD and DScAgr (Doctor of Science in Agriculture) degrees from the University of Sydney. Dr. McCleary’s contributions to analytical chemistry have been recognized at the highest level by analytical associations in the US, Europe and Australia; acknowledging his role in improving food standards throughout the world. His paper “ Measurement of β-Glucan in Mushrooms and Mycelial Products” was published in the Journal of AOAC International in 2016 and was the second most downloaded paper in 2017.

James White obtained a Masters degree in Mycology and Plant Pathology from Auburn University, Alabama, and the Ph.D. in Mycology and Botany from the University of Texas.

Dr. White is a Professor of Plant Biology, and specializes in symbiosis research particularly with endophytic microbes. He is the author of more than 200 articles, and author and editor of reference books on the biology, taxonomy, and phylogeny of fungal endophytes. He and the students in his lab are exploring diversity of endophytic microbes and the various impacts that they have on host plants.
